Day Services

·        Saint John’s Hospice provides a noon meal to 300-350 men each weekday.

·        In order to engage these men in addressing the underlying causes of their homelessness, we also offer casework services to link men with shelter, substance abuse, medical, employment, and other services.

·        We offer a mail room for over 2,000 men.  Our men must sign up for this service.

·        We offer showers, donated clothing, and personal hygiene articles to those who need this assistance.

Residence for Men

·        Drug free program with 40 shelter beds and case management services.

·        With the help of their case managers, our residents identify the problems they have which contributed to their homelessness.  We help them to actively address these problems through weekly individual and group meetings with their case manager, mandatory chores, monitored attendance in substance abuse and mental health treatment, and referral to education, employment, and other needed resources and services.

·        When our residents have made progress on these issues, we help them identify housing resources so that they can move from Saint John’s to greater self-sufficiency.

·        How to become a resident?  Please click for more information.  Or contact the social services supervisor.

Good Shepherd Program

Approximately 15% of the homeless men served through the Day Services Program and Saint John’s Residence have HIV/AIDS.  In recognition of the special housing and service needs of this population, Saint John’s opened the Good Shepherd Program in 1995, a residence which accommodates 12 medically needy homeless men, the majority of whom have HIV/AIDS.

How to become a resident?  Please click for more information.  Or contact the social services supervisor.

As in Saint John’s other programs, we help residents address the many problems which contributed to their homelessness.  In addition, staff monitors health status and access to health care, medication, and nutrition.

Coffee House

The Coffee House allows 25 chronically homeless men who typically avoid shelter to come into the safety of Saint John’s “yard” for the night.  The men are provided beverages, snacks, restrooms and most importantly the opportunity to interact positively with a Saint John’s staff member.  We strive to open communications with them, build trust and hopefully make them comfortable enough to participate in our residential programs.  This is their best opportunity to overcome the grinding cycle of chronic homelessness.

The Coffee House operates from 10 pm to 6 am every day.  Gather at the corner of N Camac St and Race St at 10 pm.
